The Chemin du Roy and the Berthier Islands

Along the Road

The Chemin du Roy was completed in 1737. Back in those days, nobody would have thought that this road was to become the oldest road in North America. More than 250 years have passed since, and apart from a few details, this road has kept its original course. It still links Québec City to Montréal, but it also stretches to the East of the province up to the Duplessis region.

In the Lanaudière region, this road offers a prestigious landscape where heritage and cultural wealth blend together and where historic houses and chapels meet. It is also from this road stretching along the St. Lawrence River that the Berthier Islands can be seen. This archipelago is one of the most beautiful natural and historic sites in Quebec.
